Ectropion is a condition in which the eyelid falls or is pulled away from the eye. The commonest cause is ageing. It is also caused by skin scarring and facial palsy.

This condition causes irritated, watery, red eye with exposed conjunctiva.

Treatment

Surgical treatment can involve horizontal tightening, vertical tightening, skin graft or a combination of these.

Entropion

In Turned Eyelid

Entropion is a turning in of the eyelid, so that the lashes rub on the eye. It presents as red eye with foreign body sensation.

The commonest cause is ageing. Conjunctival scarring, such as by chemical injury, can also cause it.

Treatment

Surgical correction is required to evert the lid margin.
