Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Lower eyelid surgery is a cosmetic procedure performed to refresh the eyes.

With age, lower eyelid skin loosens and sags and the fat that supports and surrounds the eye prolapses forwards. This produces puffiness (eye bags) and wrinkles.

Lower Eyelid Surgery involves removal of excess skin and prolapsed fat.

Lower Eyelid Surgery – Fat Reposition

Bulging lower eyelid fat can be repositioned to fill tear trough deformity (hollowness above sunken cheeks) and reduce bulge. This surgery rejuvenates the mid-face appearance.

During your first consultation Dr Davies will discuss your particular condition, your expectations, treatment options and probable outcomes, including the likelihood of any complications. This will allow you to make an informed decision about your treatment. Before and after photographs may be taken to document your results.

The lower eyelid surgery (lower blepharoplasty) takes approximately 1 hour and is performed in day surgery under local anaesthetic with intravenous sedation or in the Procedure rooms under oral sedation and local anaesthetic. For more prolonged procedures such as upper and lower blepharoplasties a general anaesthetic is required in day surgery, this surgery takes approximately 2 hours.

During the surgery Dr Davies will make incisions in the lower eyelid below the lash bulb and carefully remove any excess skin and fat using the most advanced techniques to obtain optimum results and minimal scarring.

Post-operatively after lower eyelid surgery patients are asked to use antibiotic drops and ointment for a week and apply ice compresses during the first 24 – 48 hours to reduce swelling and bruising. Sutures are removed 1 week after surgery. Most patients return to work or normal activities without feeling excessively swollen 7-10 days post surgery.
